A planned live discussion on X featuring Elon Musk and former President Donald Trump faced significant technical challenges, leading to a delay that surpassed 40 minutes and impacted users worldwide.
The conversation touched on various topics, such as immigration, inflation, and current political events, but was frequently inaccessible to audiences as Mr. Musk initially attributed it to a so-called “massive DDoS attack on X.”
However, cybersecurity experts have voiced doubts about the idea that a DDoS attack caused the interruptions. Anthony Lim, the Director of the Centre for Strategic Cyberspace and International Studies, suggested that a sudden spike in user activity might have overwhelmed the infrastructure instead of a deliberate assault.
Despite the technical issues, both speakers managed to engage in a thorough dialogue addressing crucial topics like national security, education, and the upcoming presidential election, with Vice President Kamala Harris emerging as a prominent Democratic contender in the backdrop.
The X team is currently investigating the incident to determine the root cause of the problem and is committed to ensuring the reliability of its platform for future live events.
An X spokesperson remarked, “We apologize for any difficulties our users experienced and are earnestly working to improve our system to handle increased traffic during significant events.”
